eclipse99_mir.jpg (54265 bytes)

Eclipses in the medieval world were seen as omens of bad things to come. The effects that they had on the earth and the darkness that they brought were frightful for the layman of the medieval times. Many have chronicled their dates. The on going table below will attempt to gather dates of eclipses from as many medieval sources as possible. Should the you know of any that are not listed below, please let me know. Eclipses would obviously not correlate between east and west due to the angle of view, but they remain dates when the medieval world, at least in part, was in a state of terror and anticipation of bad things to come.

Islamic and medieval coinage of a certain era included a lot of astronomical and astrological symbols. This page as well as others on this site, may help the researcher understand the significance of these symbols in given years when significant astronomical events took place.
